THERE’S ALWAYS A BIGGER FISH
THE REEF RULES
Eat the little minnows. Every minnow helps your shark grow a little bigger. Your whole body grows gradually, keeping its shark shape. Your head and neck bend up to 70° into turns while a flowing swimming stroke travels through your body to your tail. Your nose leads each turn and your body follows. The curved body can cut across another shark’s path. If your head hits another shark’s body, you lose regardless of size. In a head-on collision, the shark with less growth loses and the larger shark keeps swimming. Equal-growth head-on collisions use a fixed tie-break, so one shark always survives. Stay inside the reef boundary. Hitting the barrier kills your shark and leaves no minnows behind. When you lose, the reef fades for three seconds before your results appear.
Boost to make a move. Hold the left mouse button or Shift. Speed costs growth, so pick your moment. Arrow keys or WASD also steer.
Little lasers. Infinite ammo. Hold Space or the right mouse button. Shots follow your head’s direction. Dashed shots travel until they hit a shark, creature, cargo, or the reef edge. Hits chip a tiny amount of shark growth and never kill sharks directly. Firing costs no ammo or growth.
Mobile: two thumbs, full control. Open Controls & Display to choose Arrow (drag from your first touch), Classic touch (swim toward your finger), or a fixed 360° Joystick. Swap the thumb layout to steer on either side, with FIRE and BOOST on the opposite side. Your shark keeps swimming when you release steering. If enabled, double-tap and hold your second steering touch to boost. Settings are saved on this device.
Explore a livelier reef. Shoot drifting octopus, squid, starfish, urchins, and cargo. Larger targets split into smaller ones; clear the smallest to release food. Their energy pips show how many hits remain. Targets block lasers. Octopus, squid, starfish, and cargo bump you aside, costing a little growth but never killing directly. Urchins latch onto your shark on contact: small ones hold for 3 seconds, medium for 5, and large for 7. Both swimming and boost speed drop to 50% while any urchin is attached; extra urchins never slow you further. A countdown appears beneath your shark. They detach automatically, or sooner if lasers break them apart. Newly detached urchins and split fragments cannot attach for 2 seconds. AI sharks swim in smooth, committed paths, forage for minnows ahead, and give other sharks space. They take clear shots at sea creatures without deliberately hunting other sharks. Fresh targets drift in over time.
Each creature has a trick. Hit an octopus to release an ink cloud that lasts 4 seconds. The cloud obscures sharks, creatures, and minnows, but your own shark and controls stay visible. Lasers pass through ink. Squid jet away when hit, and the smallest release 5 minnows instead of 3. Starfish recover 1 energy pip every 2 seconds after 4 seconds without a hit. Keep firing to stop their recovery; a green pulse shows energy returning.
Choose your reef. Play against AI is solo with 30 AI opponents. Play Online opens five reefs, each with up to 12 players plus 8 AI sharks. Quick Play joins an available reef with other players when possible. Choose a named reef or copy its invitation link to meet friends in the same reef. Reefs have separate sharks, food, and leaderboards. A full reef stays unavailable until a space opens. Use a guest name and your saved shark design; no account is required. AI opponents are marked on the leaderboard. Online play keeps running while help is open or you switch apps. A disconnected shark remains briefly in the reef; use Leave Reef to leave immediately. There is no round timer.
